West Linn Alliance members were invited to attend a Zoom meeting on May 28th to discuss what qualities the Alliance would like to see in our next police chief. The invitation came from Emergency Services Consulting International, the company contracted by the city to carry out the search for the new chief. They are meeting with other community groups as well.
Attending were City Manager Jerry Gabrielatos; ESCI vice president, Dr. Cassie Fields; Law Enforcement Consultant, Lt. Colonel (ret.) Rick Brown of the Pennsylvania State Patrol; and West Linn Alliance members William House, Lonnie Shumaker, Carole White, and Leslie Hayertz.
The Alliance members had prepared a document focusing on eight points of concern (West Linn Alliance Public Statement).
The conversation was fruitful, and it was encouraging to learn that diversity, equity, and inclusion issues were already high on the city’s and ESCI’s list of priorities for recruiting candidates. The West Linn Alliance is interested in seeing how the process plays out, hoping that the next police chief will bring experience, transparency, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion to the West Linn Police Department.
