Tracey Lam\, APR\, is an award-winning public relations professional who uses communications as a catalyst for diversity\, equity\, and inclusion. She is the director of programs and communications at Partners in Diversity\, a nonproft organization that works with employers to enhance diversity\, equity\, and inclusion in the workplace. Tracey enjoys helping her community in varied ways. In 2014\, she co-founded API Forward\, a volunteer-run nonproft dedicated to the education\, leadership development\, and advancement of Asians and Pacific Islanders. Current community service work includes serving on the board of Sport Oregon\, the Diversity & Inclusion committee of the Public Relations Society of American Oregon Chapter\, the Multnomah County Budget Advisory Committee\, and the Oregon Public Broadcasting Community Advisory Board. \nThis event will be held in the Dunn Community Center at Mary’s Woods (17520 Mesnard St) or watch the livestream from home on YouTube. DESCRIPTION:Hatfield Lecture Series: Mae Ngai\nAuthor of The Chinese Question: The Gold Rushes and Global Politics\nTuesday\, March 28\, 2023\, at 7pm\nAt the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall or Online \n\nMae Ngai is the Lung Family Professor of Asian American Studies and a professor of history at Columbia University. She is a U.S. legal and political historian interested in the histories of immigration\, citizenship\, nationalism\, and the Chinese diaspora. Her latest book\, The Chinese Question: The Gold Rushes and Global Politics\, was winner of the 2022 Bancroft Prize. This distinguished history of the Chinese diaspora and global capitalism chronicles how a feverish alchemy of race and money brought Chinese people to the West and reshaped the nineteenth century. Drawing on ten years of research across five continents\, Ngai narrates the story of the thousands of Chinese who left their homeland in pursuit of gold and how they formed communities and organizations to help navigate their perilous new world.
