The Black History 101 Mobile Museum has visited 41 states\, reaching tens of thousands of visitors in diverse spaces. \n

DESCRIPTION:The Clackamas County Equity Coalition (CCEC) invites you to attend a conversation with Sarah Sanderson\, author of The Place We Make\, and Taylor Stewart\, director of the Oregon Remembrance Project\, called “Holding Difficult Truths: Transforming Our Broken Past into a Hopeful Future.” \nThe event will be held live on January 10 at 6 p.m. at the Gladstone Community Center\, 255 E Exeter St\, Gladstone\, OR 97027. \nCCEC is currently working on live-streaming the event for those who cannot attend in person and we will send a follow-up email after the new year with more on those details. \nIn the meantime\, you can find a copy of The Place We Make at Spoke & Word Books in Milwaukie. SUMMARY:Mary's Woods Annual MLK Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Mary’s Woods Annual Martin Luther King celebration will be held on Saturday January 13 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of the Holy Names (17400 Holy Names Drive\, Lake Oswego). The guest speaker is Hezekiah Watkins. \nOn July 7\, 1961\, at age 13\, Hezekiah Watkins was the youngest person arrested in Jackson\, Mississippi during the Freedom Rides for a “breach of peace.” He soon found himself on Death Row at Parchman Penitentiary\, possibly the worst prison in the United States. Learning from Civil Rights leaders James Bevel\, David Dennis and Mrs. Fannie Lou Hamer\, Watkins continued his fight for civil rights and justice in Mississippi while being arrested over 100 times. \nToday he works with the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum in his hometown of Jackson\, bringing awareness that the struggle for justice continues. \nAlso the NW Freedom Singers will return to this year’s event. \n
