The Mainstreaming of Antisemitism in America

The West Linn Alliance January 2022 Presentation

The January meeting of the West Linn Alliance featured a marvelous presentation by Bob Horenstein on “The Mainstreaming of Antisemitism in America.” The meeting was well attended and included West Linn Police Chief Mahuna, West Linn Mayor Walters, and WLWV School Board member Louis Taylor.

Bob is the Director of Community Relations of the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland. His presentation provided context around the history of antisemitism in our country and how it is manifesting itself today. He explored antisemitic activities and movements across America’s political spectrum from the far right to the far left.

Two excellent articles related to his presentation:

January 27 is International Holocaust Remembrance Day, marking 77 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. We hold the memory of six million Jewish victims and millions of other victims of the Holocaust in our hearts.

Film Screening Final Account and Zoom Discussion
Watch the film from home: February 7-14, 2022 Join the Zoom Discussion: Final Account: The Difference Between Transformative and Performative Accounting Post-Holocaust, February 16, 2022 | Noon PST
Amanda Byron Singer, Tamara Meyer, and Robbie Schaefer reflect on the film, Final Account, in light of their experiences in Germany in November 2021. Jewish Remembrance Week in Goertlitz focused on the importance of recognizing the vitality of Jewish life in Goerlitz prior to World War II, and paved the way for new opportunities for accountability and transformation. The nature of performative apology will be explored in contrast to transformative apology in terms of what constitutes a “final” accounting in the aftermath of atrocity. Information on how to watch the screening will be sent out on February 7 to those that have registered by Zoom.
