Tuesday, March 7, at 7:00 p.m. – a conversation about the personal and the political with Kiese Laymon at the Alberta Rose Theatre in Portland. (Sponsored by Oregon Humanities)The event will also stream live on YouTube.Kiese Laymon is a Black southern writer from Jackson, Mississippi, whose essays and fiction explore race, the body, poverty, and place with humor, sorrow, and rage. He was named a MacArthur Fellow in 2022 for “bearing witness to the myriad forms of violence that mark the Black experience.” His books include the award-winning memoir Heavy, the groundbreaking essay collection How to Slowly Kill Yourself and Others in America, and the genre-defying novel Long Division.
